Question:  Where did the name PyrOrder™ come from?

Answer:      The picture at the top of the screen is of a Great Pyrenees dog named Patou that was owned by one of the original designers and developers of the PyrOrder™ software package. The picture was taken when Patou was 9 years old, and he lived until 1995 when he died at the age of 14 years and 9 months. Quite old for such a large breed, but he was healthy and happy to the end.

The origin of the breed was in the Pyrenees which is a range of mountains in southwest Europe that forms a natural border between Spain and France. Reaching a height of 11,168 feet ( 3.4 KM ) altitude at the peak of Aneto, the range separates the Iberian Peninsula from the rest of continental Europe, and extends for about 305 miles ( 491 KM ) from the Bay of Biscay (Cap Higuer) to the Mediterranean Sea (Cap de Creus). It is believed that the Pyrenean Mountain Dog, as they are called in Europe, were native to the mountains for more than 3,000 years and were used to protect flocks of animals from preditors such as wolves and bears.

Since the breed was known for its protective and guarding instincts, they were often used by many noblemen in Europe for personal and family protection. Often considered more valuable than 2 soldiers in battle, and far more trust worthy.
